My particular area of interest is in helping faith communities respond effectively to sexual abuse. This involves both coping with abuse when it has occurred as well as trying to prevent it from happening at all. I have worked with those who have caused harm to others as well as those who have suffered that harm. My experience as a consultant has given me the opportunity of working with a number of different faith communities, churches, and other faith based organisations, providing them with advice, support, and guidance as to how best to deal with these issues.

I can provide a range of services in the field of child safeguarding management, policy review, and practice. Drawing on my extensive experience in the safeguarding field, case reviews and assessments can be offered with particular relevance to faith communities. The design of services within the area of safeguarding can also be undertaken.

I also have experience of acting as an expert witness in cases in line with the Civil Procedure Rules, Part 35, as issued by the Minisrty of Justice.

Legislative developments in the Republic of Ireland will place new statutory responsibilities on a range of voluntary agencies who offer services to children. Advice and guidance on how to best accommodate these changes can also be provided.

Critical to the success of any organisation is confidence in the quality of your service. I have designed and undertaken quality assurance audits in both statutory and voluntary organisations aimed at positively developing existing provision. In 2005, I was seconded to the Northern Ireland Department of Health and Social Services from my post as Director of the NSPCC to specifically lead on designing and implementing reform of the delivery of statutory child protection services following a critical inspection report.

My services are available throughout the island of Ireland and may be delivered internationally if required.

The services I have provided have included safeguarding advice and guidance, resolving management difficulties, policy revision, and practice reviews. I have undertaken exit interviews for service users to provide feedback on their experiences. I have also provided expert testimony within civil proceedings relating to historic abuse, in line with the Civil Proceedings Rules, Part 35, as issued by the Ministry of Justice in England and Wales.
