My particular area of interest is in helping faith communities respond effectively to child safeguarding concerns when they emerge. I have worked with those who have caused harm to others as well as those who have suffered that harm. My experience as a consultant has given me the opportunity of working with a number of different faith communities, churches, and other youth organisations, providing them with advice, support, and guidance as to how best to deal with these issues.
I can provide a range of services in the field of child safeguarding management, policy review, and practice. Drawing on my extensive experience in the safeguarding field, case reviews and assessments can be offered. I can advise on the design of services within the area of safeguarding using the experience gained in both the statutory and voluntary sectors.
My work as an expert witness in civil litigation claims brought for alleged sexual abuse within Church settings, has grown considerably in recent years. This is a service that I offer both here and internationally if required.
Critical to the success of any service providing organisation in the youth sector, is confidence in the quality of your service. Ensuring best practice safeguarding standards are in place and being met, is a requirement rather than an optional extra. I have designed and undertaken quality assurance audits in both statutory and voluntary organisations aimed at positively developing existing provision to ensure it meets the highest standards. . In 2005, I was seconded to the Northern Ireland Department of Health and Social Services from my post as Director of the NSPCC to specifically lead on designing and implementing reform of the delivery of statutory child protection services following a critical inspection report.
My services are available throughout the island of Ireland and may be delivered internationally if required.
The services I have provided have included safeguarding advice and guidance, resolving management difficulties, policy revision, and practice reviews. I have undertaken exit interviews for service users to provide feedback on their experiences.
I have extensive experience of work with survivors of sexual abuse and have designed assistance programmes for them, for adoption and implementation by organisations that have had an experience of abuse in their history.
